Indoor or outdoor catering in Dubai: how to choose

By myCHEF DubaiPublished 2 min read

In Weddings, Parties & Celebrations

Both indoor and outdoor catering work in Dubai year-round — the format is not a seasonal limit but a set of trade-offs. What actually settles the choice is the weather on your date, the venue's kitchen and access, and how long guests will be outside. If you are comparing options early, the catering service in Dubai covers both formats, and this guide sets out the checks that decide which one fits your event.

Season and timing

Dubai's comfortable outdoor season runs roughly November to March, and even then evenings cool only after sunset. From May to September, daytime outdoor service means shade, fans and a compressed schedule — most hosts move indoors or shift to a later evening. December and January are the months where an afternoon garden lunch needs no special measures.

Kitchen and equipment differences

Indoor events keep the kitchen close: warm dishes travel a short distance, chafing dishes plug in easily and cleanup stays contained. Outdoor events need the route planned — power for warmers, cover for wind, and a plan for what happens if a dish runs out mid-service. Neither is harder; they are different checklists.

A guest-comfort checklist

  • Seating in shade or air conditioning for the full event, not just the meal.
  • A covered fallback if wind or a brief rain arrives.
  • Power confirmed for warmers, coffee and music.
  • Lighting after sunset for outdoor evening service.
  • An accessible path from parking to the table for older guests.

A worked example (hypothetical)

Twenty guests, a Saturday birthday. In December, a garden buffet with a live grill works: shade in the afternoon, warm dishes served at sunset. The same party in July moves indoors — a buffet in the majlis with the grill brought to a covered balcony, or the format changes to canapés and passed platters so nothing depends on standing outside. Same guest count, different checklist.

Next step: send your date, venue and guest mix when you enquire through the catering page and the format recommendation comes back with the proposal. For related reading, see buffet layout planning and planning a BBQ party in Dubai.
