Why most Dubai nurseries are nut-free

Nut-free policies are close to universal across Dubai nurseries and many schools. Packed boxes labelled “may contain traces,” sesame oils, and sharing at the table are the usual failure points. Early-years children cannot be asked to police their own lunch. For managers, a written allergy process is now an enrolment question, not a nice-to-have on a prospectus.

Halal nursery meals Dubai sit next to that rule, not behind it. Pork is out of school and nursery catering. Halal-certified meat and poultry are the expected baseline for most families. Assuming it without a certificate is how a complaint starts.

What Dubai Municipality actually expects

Allergy management is now an explicit municipal expectation for educational food, not only good practice. My School Food, launched in November 2025, covers hundreds of thousands of students across schools, nurseries and universities. Enhanced food and nutrition guidelines ask for allergy protocols, portion control, age-specific planning and clear labelling. Only registered, approved suppliers may serve those institutions.

The Dubai Food Code requires allergen disclosure for the recognised allergen list, traceability and labelling, and Person in Charge supervision for high-care groups such as nurseries. KHDA sets wellbeing expectations for private nurseries; food permits still sit with Dubai Municipality. Do not let a caterer use “KHDA-approved” as a badge. Ask for the municipal papers.

What a nut-free kitchen actually does

A nut-free kitchen rule means nuts do not enter the production area, including “may contain” products. It is not enough to leave peanuts off the menu while baklava with walnuts sits on the same pass. Segregation, labelled storage, and a matrix for the live cycle are the product.

Every meal should leave with allergen labelling a staff member can read without calling the chef. The matrix belongs in the office so any teacher on duty can answer a parent. If the caterer cannot show you last week’s matrix, they do not have a process.

Halal as documentation, not a vibe

Halal-first sourcing means approved suppliers for meat and poultry, no pork or non-halal derivatives in the nursery range, and certificates that match the proteins on the cycle. If a family asks to see the paper, that request belongs in the brief before the first service.

Questions to ask a nursery catering company

Where is the kitchen? Can we walk it? Who is PIC on the shift that cooks our food? What is the nut-free rule in that room, not on the website? Can we see last week’s allergen matrix? How is food held on the van? Cold at or below 5°C, hot at or above 60°C, logged.

Are you listed on My School Food? If they say yes, ask for the listing. If they say they are “in process,” write that down. myCHEF will not claim a listing on this page until it is filed. Nursery catering Dubai is the service page when you are ready to brief a kitchen.
